Starting with the first wave of white settlers, who came looking for traces of gold, Shaver Lake has a rich and colorful history. The early loggers were the first to enter the scene, and the sawmills, in turn, helped set the foundations for the farms and ranches below, enabling Fresno County to grow into the nation’s number one agricultural county – a symbiotic relationship that continues to this day. Included are stories from the old-timers who lived in and loved the Shaver Lake area in the Sierra Nevada west of Fresno.
